THOMAS WARNER OBITUARY
Thomas C Warner Jr, formerly of Ormond Beach, FL died peacefully at the home of his son and daughter in law in Westmoreland, NH surrounded by family.
Tom was born November 20, 1919 in Waterbury, CT. He moved to West Haven, CT in 1924. He graduated from West Haven High School in 1936 and married Louise Flanagan in 1941. Tom graduated from Yale University School of Engineering in 1942 and joined the Army Air Force in 1942 where he was based in Fairbanks and Seward Alaska as a bomber mechanic in WWII. While in Alaska, he researched cold weather instrumentation. He received his Masters of Science degree from MIT in 1947. From 1950 to 1952, he was a Major in the US Air Force. He was hired as a private contractor to study radar reflective and absorptive surfaces. This early research eventually led to the B1 bomber.
After his military service, he worked at MB Electronics in New Haven, CT (1952-1960) while teaching part time at New Haven College. He became a full professor in 1966 and Dean of the School of Engineering at the now University of New Haven in 1970. Tom was a member of numerous Engineering Societies, was published in journals in six foreign countries. He holds patents on vibration testing machinery.
After the passing of his wife Louise, he married Helen (Borchers) Warner and moved to Ormond Beach, FL. Helen passed in 2008. In his retirement, he taught part time in local Florida colleges and volunteered as a hospital greeter until 2013, at the age of 93. Tom was a lover of history and kept a journal his entire life: a treasure trove of family, local and US history. He enjoyed traveling the world; going on over 35 cruises during his lifetime. His last cruise was to the Bahamas with his family in December of 2016.
Tom is survived by two sisters, Jane DeGennaro and Barbara Moran, of West Haven, CT, his son, Thomas Warner III and his wife, Kristen Warner of Westmoreland, NH. His daughter Anita Sause passed away last year. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Edward Sause, Brian Sause, Daniel Sause, Brian Warner, Kate Warner, Bryan Stewart and Ashley Heed in addition to five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
