Carol Elaine Wynne, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska. Carol was born March 7, 1923 at Wilcox, Nebraska, the eldest of two children born to Carl Leslie and Alta Mae (Caswell) Goings.

In 1936, Carol was baptized at the First Christian Church, Alma, Nebraska. She began her education at Wilcox, Nebraska through the 4th grade. The family then moved to Phillips County, Kansas, where she continued primary school at the Hilltop Rural School District #65. The family then moved to Alma, Nebraska where she continued her education and graduated from Alma (NE.) High School with the class of 1940.

After graduation, Carol taught in District #8 and District #59 rural schools for three years. While she was teaching, Carol attended summer school and earned a two year degree from The University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Nebraska. She then began teaching first grade in Beatrice, Nebraska. After reading an article on the "Purple Heart Platoon," Carol decided she wanted to assist wounded soldiers, so she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) on March 23, 1945. After months of medical training, Carol was assigned to the Fitzsimons General Army Hospital, Denver, Colorado. While serving in the WAC, Carol met William Robert "Bill" Wynne. On October 20, 1945, Carol was united in marriage to Bill Wynne at the First Christian Church, Alma, Nebraska and to this union one daughter was born: Jennifer Elaine. The couple made their home in Alma, Nebraska where Carol taught 4th grade and kindergarten for five years. A few years later, she became the Harlan County, Nebraska Veteran's Service Officer for six years. Carol then accepted a position as the County Welfare Director until her retirement in 1988. Following her retirement, she enjoyed keeping busy for a few years working part-time for her brother, Ron who owned Goings Ford.

Carol was a devoted member of the First Christian Church, Alma, Nebraska. She was also a life member of the Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 and it's Auxiliary, Alma, Nebraska. Carol's hobbies were crocheting and tending to her teapot collection. First and foremost in her life was spending time with her family. She absolutely loved the special times spent with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.

Carol was preceded in death by: parents and brother, Ronald Dean "Bud" Goings.

Carol is survived by: daughter, Jennifer Luther and her husband, Roger of rural Orleans, Nebraska; grandchildren: Clarissa "CeCe" Hunt and her husband, Eric of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeffrey Luther and his special friend, Virginia Meltzer of Charlotte, North Carolina and Samantha Luther of Lincoln, Nebraska; great-granddaughter, Sofia Elaine Hunt of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister-in-law, JoAnn Goings of Alma, Nebraska and a host of family and friends.

Interment was in Alma Cemetery, Alam, Nebraska, with military honors provided by the Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 in conjunction with the United States Army Military Honor Guard.
