MR. SPERRY DIES IN NEW HAVEN
HAD BEEN DIRECTOR OF SCHOOL HERE SINCE 1932
Fails To Recover From Serious Operation

Mr. L. Burton Sperry, our late director, passed away on September 28, 1936 at the New Haven Hospital following a serious operation. He was a native of New Haven and was born there September 30, 1871. Mr. Sperry, the son of Lucius P. and Emily Chatfield Sperry, received his early education in that city.

He entered the masonry business by serving as an apprentice to his father and later became a partner. While with his father, Mr. Sperry supervised the construction of the Yale Boat House, several Yale buildings, and the Monterey Apartments in New Haven. For several years he was superintendent of construction with the Sperry Engineering Co. In this position, Mr. Sperry supervised the building of a large club house in Waterbury, West Haven Library, and Washington and Union Schools.

In September 1927, he was appointed inspector of the masonry department of the Bridgeport Trade School and in 1932 was advanced to director of the school; the position which he held until the time of his death.

Mr. Sperry was a member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and the Masonic Order of New Haven. He operated a private Trade School while he had his own masonry business.
